It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed founding partner and dear friend, Mitchell Dean O’Donnell, who died on August 8, 2026. For over six decades, Mitch was a cornerstone of our law firm and a deeply respected figure within the Tulsa legal community.
A Journey from Bowlegs to the Bar
Mitch’s story is one of hard work and dedication. Born on June 28, 1935, in a farmhouse near Bowlegs, Oklahoma, he carried the values of his upbringing throughout his life. After graduating from Bowlegs High School, his athletic talent earned him a football scholarship to East Central University, where he completed his undergraduate degree. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Tulsa.
Building a 60-Year Legacy
In 1964, Mitch partnered with fellow TU Law graduates C.B. Savage and Jack McNulty to form the Tulsa law firm of Savage, O’Donnell & McNulty. Over the course of the next 60 years, Mitch built a thriving law practice dedicated to representing individuals and small family businesses. Even after officially retiring in May 2018, the foundation he laid continued to shape the culture and success of our firm.
A Life Measured by Relationships
While his 60-plus-year legal career was decorated with numerous awards, citations, and professional milestones, Mitch was always most proud of the personal connections he forged. He measured his success not just in the courtroom, but in the relationships he built with his clients and his community.
Outside of the office, Mitch was a devoted community leader. He dedicated his time to his church, mentored young people through the Boy Scouts, and spent countless hours coaching youth sports.
Mitch will be profoundly missed by his family, his friends, his colleagues, and the countless clients he helped over his long and distinguished career. We are honored to continue the legacy of integrity, service, and community that he established at this firm over half a century ago.
